Dr. h. c. prof. RNDr. František Petrovič, PhD., MBA, completed his master’s degree in geography-cartography at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava in 2000. He completed his doctoral studies in landscape ecology in 2005 at the Technical University in Zvolen, at the Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. He habilitated and was inaugurated as a professor in the field of landscape protection and utilization at the Department of Ecology and Environmentalistics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics of UKF in 2007 and 2014, respectively. He was awarded the title doctor honoris causa by Lviv University of Business and Law in 2025.
He began his career as a research fellow at the Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, and since 2006 he has been active in research and teaching at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics of UKF. He has completed research stays and professional internships in Bhutan, Poland, Argentina, Chile, China, the Czech Republic, the USA, and Jordan. He is a member of several expert committees and scientific councils, and also the chairman of the Slovak Ecological Society. From 2016 to 2018, he was the chairman of the Academic Senate, and from 2018 to 2026, he was the dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics of UKF.
He has been the Rector of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra since July 3, 2026.
