The Faculty of Social Sciences and Health Care (FSVaZ) was established as the fourth faculty of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra in 2001. It was created by consolidating departments that focused on social sciences at the university. Health care study programs began to develop at the faculty in 2002, and at the same time, the University Hospital in Nitra became a key practical teaching base for the faculty’s study programs.
The goal of FSVaZ is to prepare professionals for practice in the field of social, counseling, educational, and health services.
The primary task of FSVaZ is the development of helping professions through education and research activities. All departments focus on the human being. The human being in the broadest possible sense – the individual, the person in their interpersonal relationships, the person in their social network, as well as the person in social contexts. Special attention is paid to people with problems. A strong point of education in all fields is the intensive support for future employability through professional practice at the University Hospital in Nitra and in a wide network of social, health, and counseling facilities.
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Health Care provides higher education in social sciences and non-medical health sciences. The faculty offers three bachelor’s study programs with subsequent master’s degrees in social science fields – psychology, social work, social services and counseling. In the third degree of study, it is possible to study social work and pedagogical, counseling, and school psychology. In health care fields, it offers two bachelor’s study programs – nursing and urgent health care.
The representative of the faculty is Prof. PhDr. Tomáš Sollár, PhD., Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health Care.
