The Faculty of Natural Sciences was established in 1993, commencing its operations as an independent, research-oriented, and educational faculty of a university type. It was preceded by over 40 years of tradition in higher education for teachers in Nitra, including teachers for minority schools. The Faculty builds upon the three-year operation of the Pedagogical Institute (1959 – 1963), which was transformed into the Pedagogical Faculty in Nitra in 1964. Since 2022, the Faculty has been named the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics.
The main task of the faculty is to provide higher education and conduct creative scientific research in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics, and informatics.
The Faculty fulfills its mission by educating highly qualified professionals within a wide range of accredited scientific and professional study programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. A long-standing tradition of the faculty is the preparation of teachers of natural sciences, mathematics, and informatics. In cooperation with other faculties of Constantine the Philosopher University, it creates the broadest offering of teacher education in natural sciences, mathematics, and informatics in combination with language, artistic, technical, humanities, and social science subjects within the Slovak higher education system.
Higher education at the faculty is carried out in close connection with the research, development, and other creative activities of the faculty’s employees and doctoral students.
As part of its activities, the Faculty is also involved in promoting natural sciences, mathematics, and informatics, with an emphasis on youth and the general public.
The representative of the faculty is Prof. RNDr. František Strejček, PhD., Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics.
