Teaching practice is an integral part of teacher training, offering students the opportunity to observe the activities of expert teachers, utilize and verify acquired theoretical knowledge and didactic skills, confront theoretical and didactic constructs with educational reality, and based on reflected experience, create their individual teaching concept. Through practice, the student encounters real educational and upbringing situations, which they solve from the teacher’s perspective.
Key activities of teaching practice include familiarization with and work with the pedagogical documentation of the class and school, student assistant activities, pedagogical observation, planning of teaching and student learning processes, implementation of teaching using information and communication technologies, reflection on educational reality and self-reflection, and solving research-oriented tasks.
The goal of teaching practice is to acquire professional competencies for the teaching profession by connecting practical experience with theoretical knowledge, specifically to be able to identify individual student characteristics and group class characteristics, to be able to plan and implement teaching, to be able to create a stimulating and non-threatening environment for teaching and learning, to be able to evaluate teaching, learning processes, and student learning outcomes, and to be able to use feedback and self-reflection to develop teaching abilities.
The practice includes guidance of the student by the supervising teacher, subject didactician, and department methodologist. The mentor is expected to provide guidance in analysis and feedback provision, and facilitation, appropriately according to the circumstances or the student’s level of professional development.
Teaching practice for the study programs of the Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Natural Sciences, and Faculty of Education is organizationally ensured by the Department of Teaching Practice of the Faculty of Education, UKF.
