Integration at the Level of Library, Publishing, and IT Systems

Within the joint project of the consortium of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica and Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, both universities have jointly undertaken activities focused on the integration of library, publishing, and information systems. The activity was carried out from March 2024 to October 2025. Its goal was to create an environment supporting education, research and development, and information accessibility for students of joint study programs.

At Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, the implementation of this activity was ensured by the University Library of CPU, which, in close cooperation with partners from MBU, coordinated the fulfillment of project tasks. The following steps were taken as part of the activity:

• Purchase of a server and migration of the DAWINCI system – In order to increase the performance and security of library and information services, a new server was procured, onto which the DAWINCI system was subsequently migrated. The migration proceeded without service interruptions and enabled more stable processing of library data and faster user access to electronic resources.
• Digitization of the library collection – A professional scanner for digitizing books and study materials was purchased for the CPU study room. Thanks to it, the process of making selected titles available in electronic form began, thus expanding the accessibility of resources for students and academic staff.
• Amendment of library regulations – The University Library of CPU in Nitra initiated a review and unification of library regulations in line with the harmonization efforts of the consortium. The new regulations reflect unified rules for students and staff, thereby simplifying access to services and increasing the transparency of user rights and obligations.
• Definition of categories in the DAWINCI system – As part of the optimization of the library and information system, categories of documents, users, and services were redefined. This adjustment enabled more efficient collection management, more accurate searching, and better orientation within the system.
• Creation of a joint union catalog – The University Library of CPU in Nitra ensured the creation of a union catalog for the MBU – CPU consortium, available on the biblib.sk platform, which links the library collections of both universities. The catalog allows searching for documents across institutions with redirection to the local catalogs of consortium members.
• Update of the university library website – The website of the CPU university library was expanded with information intended for potential readers from MBU. Practical guides for registration, an overview of available services, and information on how to use library resources were added.
• Preparation of the pre-registration system for MBU students – In cooperation with the library system supplier, a technical solution for the pre-registration of MBU students for the services of the CPU university library is being prepared. The goal is to ensure smooth and seamless access to services from the beginning of the academic year.

By implementing this activity, the University Library of CPU in Nitra significantly contributed to fulfilling the goals of the consortium project, strengthened its information infrastructure, and at the same time supported the goals of the Recovery and Resilience Plan in the area of digitalization and modernization of the academic environment.
