A pregnant student who has permanent residence in the Slovak Republic and is not entitled to pregnancy benefit within the meaning of § 47a of Act No. 461/2003 Coll. on Social Insurance is legally entitled to a pregnancy scholarship. The condition is the beginning of the 27th week before the expected date of delivery, determined by a doctor, for which a medical certificate must be submitted. The pregnancy scholarship, which serves to cover increased expenses related to the student’s health condition, special material needs, and preparation for childbirth, can be granted to the student at the earliest during this period.
The pregnancy scholarship is granted from the first day of the calendar month in which the application was submitted and is provided monthly by the 10th day of the respective calendar month to a bank account held in the Slovak Republic. If the conditions for granting the pregnancy scholarship were met only for a part of the calendar month in which the application was received, the pregnancy scholarship is due for the entire calendar month. The pregnancy scholarship is also provided for the months of July and August.
The right to a pregnancy scholarship ceases:
- upon entitlement to pregnancy benefit
- upon termination of pregnancy
- upon completion of studies
If any of the above circumstances occur, the student is obliged to notify the Scholarship Department of UKF in Nitra within 10 working days. Otherwise, the student is obliged to return the improperly provided pregnancy scholarship for the relevant period.
How should a student apply for a pregnancy scholarship?
- submit a written application by registered mail to the Scholarship Department
- attach a medical certificate stating that the 27th week before the expected date of delivery has begun
- proof of study, or suspension of study due to pregnancy
