University studies at all faculties of Constantine the Philosopher University are organized and recorded with the support of a credit system, which is fully compatible with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
All activities that a student undertakes as part of their studies, i.e., active participation in lectures, seminars, and exercises, self-study, creative activities within the subject, etc., are awarded credits. The number of credits for a subject corresponds to the effort and time that the student must invest to successfully complete the subject and acquire the relevant learning outcomes.
The student has a specified number of credits in their study plan that they must obtain during their studies for compulsory subjects, compulsory elective subjects, and possibly elective subjects.
The credit system allows for:
- even distribution of study workload over the entire period of study,
- choosing an individual pace of study,
- choosing from the offer of compulsory elective and elective subjects, and thus pursuing one’s own interests and profiling,
- participating in a mobility program and earning credits at another university, or abroad.
Individual credits for completed subjects are summed up. Obtaining the prescribed number of credits in the required composition is a condition for the proper completion of studies in the respective study program.
To successfully complete a bachelor’s study program, it is necessary to obtain 180 credits, for a master’s study program 120 credits, and to successfully complete a doctoral study program, it is necessary to obtain 180 credits in a three-year study, or 240 credits if the standard duration of full-time study is four years.
Completion of study subjects is regulated in terms of time and space and takes place during semesters or trimesters of the academic year. The organizational tool of the academic year is the academic year schedule.
