Bachelor’s study is the first cycle of higher education. Within the bachelor’s study, students acquire theoretical knowledge from their chosen study program, corresponding to the current state of scientific knowledge in the field of study, or fields in case of interdisciplinary study, and practical skills and competencies corresponding to the professional application of the graduate. The university currently offers academically oriented bachelor’s study programs. Their completion typically provides a prerequisite for continuing to the second cycle of higher education. The standard length of bachelor’s study programs in full-time study at UKF is three years, and in part-time study, three or four years. The condition for completing the study is the successful completion of a state examination, which includes the defense of a bachelor’s thesis. Graduates are awarded the title of Bachelor, abbreviated as “Bc.”.
Master’s study is the second cycle of higher education. Within the master’s study, students acquire theoretical knowledge from their chosen study program, corresponding to the current state of scientific knowledge, or knowledge in the field of technology or art in the field of study, or fields in case of interdisciplinary study, and practical skills and competencies for the creative application of acquired knowledge in professional practice. Completion of master’s study provides a prerequisite for continuing to the third cycle of higher education. The standard length of master’s study programs in full-time study at UKF is two years, and in part-time study, two or three years. The condition for completing the study is the successful completion of a state examination, which also includes the defense of a master’s thesis. Graduates are awarded the title of Master, abbreviated as “Mgr.”.
Doctoral study is the third cycle of higher education. Within doctoral study, students acquire theoretical knowledge from their chosen study program, corresponding to the current state of scientific knowledge, or knowledge in the field of technology or art in the field of study, and competencies for planning and conducting scientific research and independent creative activity in the relevant field, including the reflection of the results of their own creative and research work in published form. The standard length of doctoral study programs in full-time study at UKF is three or four years, and in part-time study, four or five years. The condition for completing the study is the successful completion of a doctoral examination, as well as the preparation and defense of a doctoral dissertation. Graduates are awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy, abbreviated as “PhD.”.

Full-time study in Slovak is provided free of charge at the university. The full-time form is organized and conducted so that the student completes 1500-1800 hours of study, including self-study and independent creative work, per academic year. The standard study load of a student per academic year corresponds to 60 credits. The timetable for full-time study is primarily scheduled for weekdays.
Part-time study is a paid form of study at the university. The amount of tuition fees per academic year is determined by the Internal Regulation on Tuition Fees and Charges for the relevant academic year. The part-time form is organized and conducted so that the student completes 750-1440 hours of study, including self-study and independent creative work, per academic year. The standard study load of a student per academic year corresponds to 48 credits. The timetable for part-time study is primarily scheduled for weekend days (Saturday), or the last day of the working week (Friday).
Within the full-time and part-time forms of study, face-to-face and distance learning methods are applied at the university.
The face-to-face method of study is the dominant method applied in study programs and is based on direct contact between the teacher and the student during lectures, seminars, exercises, or professional and pedagogical practice.
The distance method of study is developed in some subjects of study programs, and communication with the student is ensured through communication means, especially those based on the use of computer networks.
