The academic year, according to current higher education legislation, lasts from September 1st to August 31st and at Constantine the Philosopher University is divided into two semesters, and in some programs into three trimesters. The time characteristics of the duration of semesters and trimesters are regulated by the academic year schedule.
An applicant for study becomes a university student on the day of enrollment in study. This is followed by matriculation, a ceremonial rite at which the student is symbolically enrolled in the university’s student registry. At the same time, they pledge to fulfill their study obligations and respect the moral commitments to the university and faculty so that their activities bring all-round benefit. A procedural part of enrollment in the first year, and subsequently in further years of study, is the enrollment in individual subjects of the study plan.
In addition to acquiring theoretical knowledge, professional practices are an important part of the study. Teaching practice is an integral part of teacher training. It offers students the opportunity to observe the work of experienced teachers, to use and verify acquired theoretical knowledge and didactic skills, to confront them with educational reality, and to create their own individual teaching concept based on reflected experience. Professional practice introduces students to the reality of practice in non-teaching study programs.
The basic condition for successful completion of studies at all levels of higher education is the preparation and defense of a final thesis. The final thesis and its defense are part of the state examination.
Successful completion of the state examination is a prerequisite for the proper completion of studies. Graduation ceremonies are ceremonial academic rites for awarding diplomas to study graduates.
